Via Tallone is a charming street in one of the fastest changing neighbourhoods in Eastern Milan. Dating back to the 1930’s, the neighbourhood of Acquabella withstood WWII bombings, surviving until today as a coherent ensemble with great urban qualities provided by a pre-modern commitment to a rather formal urbanism.

oitoo was commissioned to refurbish an apartment located in a corner building, a 4th floor overseeing the bustling streets below. The apartment is composed of three large rooms facing the street, served by a circulation / infrastructure layer inside: a flexible layout.

The proposal aims to capture the character and specificity of the modern interiors of the golden age of 1950’s Milanese architecture.

A clear duality is established between “open” living areas connecting the corner facing the street in the front and the open terrace in the back. This continuous space binds together entry, circulation and living areas both front and back.

The “closed” service spaces consist of two bedrooms and the infrastructure areas, which highlight the open, continuous space in the middle. Each space is designed with specific features to enhance its specificity: library walls in the living room, a generous sliding panel to close or open the kitchen area according to need, a recessed alcove in the study room, whimsical suspended ceilings in the entrance hall, an urban oasis in the open terrace…

A new, serene and private domestic realm.
