A new, shaded peristyle will unify the outer layer of Benfica Market, generating a generous transition area between public space and commercial areas, while solving universal accessibility requirements
Inside, a new oculus will improve natural lighting and the bioclimatic performance of the open market areas
The flea market in the back, will activate what is today an underused backlot
The urban solution will reclaim for the Market’s orbit a new, recognisable and accessible civic quality, favouring pedestrians and the the soft means of transportation, without compromising the functional requirements of an active market

The late modernist building, dating back to 1968, needs to find a new generation of costumers while improving the user experience of the original ones.
