The competition brief, asks for a new housing complex of 74 affordable dwellings, to be developed in Almada, south Lisbon Metro area and near an important public transportation hub.

oitoo’s competition proposal focuses on the sensible scaling of the housing blocks, looking for a careful articulation with the ground floor and the enhancement of the communal areas which become the fulcrum of the project.

The proposal completes an expectant plot of a 1970’s “social” residential development area which, having been urbanised in the last 40 years, still yearns for a better public space engagement and requires “critical mass” to truly become a part of the city.

The project looks to create an architectural vocabulary and materialisation to bring specificity and identity to an otherwise unremarkable urban situation: architecture generating good quality, human scaled public spaces as the means to create a meaningful place.
