reground / habitar o res do chao
As soon as one moves away from the old Baixa, it’s impossible to remain indifferent to the vast succession of empty shop windows of closed businesses, walled and boarded up and for sale signs
Our investigation took on a 36ha portion of one of Porto’s neighbourhoods where we assessed the status of all ground floor spaces within this area
In an universe of 581 ground floor spaces, 173 were found vacant, or 30% of the total
Over 22.500sqm of fully infra-structured unused ground floor spaces could easily provide housing for about 1.200 people
Reground or living in the ground floor presents a clear path for an alternative use of spaces where commercial activity has proven to be unsustainable
