shopyard braga 25
The proposal interprets the shopping centre as a miniature version of the urban fabric. By removing the shopfront glazing, the project extends the “public” realm into the interior of the building, creating a collective moment within the mall — a small piazza, so to speak. The yellow curtain becomes the only physical boundary, opening or closing to calibrate the degree of public engagement with the space.
In the heart of Braga, many shopping centres built between the 1980s and 1990s remain underused, despite their central and privileged locations. A considerable number of retail units stand empty, awaiting new forms of occupation.
Throughout 2025, the Shopyard programme proposes revisiting these places — questioning their current condition and imagining possible futures for these semi-forgotten urban interiors.
